An unforgettable experience
Not only a concert: to listen live to the voice of Andrea Bocelli is an adventure for the spirit and for the senses. Be there is to take part to an event that involves several centuries of great music, in a performance that defeats all the barriers of musical genres and which is able, at all latitudes, to speak to every heart through the immediacy of a refined language, but both simple and direct.
Despite the arenas being overcrowded with tens of thousands of spectators thus turning the show into a joyful collective ritual, every viewer inevitably establishes an exclusive and confidential relation with the artist: from the stage Andrea takes him by the hand accompanying him along a passionate and memorable journey that celebrates beauty through music, medicine for the soul.
The Structure of the concert
The program sequence conceived by Andrea Bocelli for his 2013 Asian tour offers, in detail, a number of reasons which can be considered its back bone. There is a name that stands out strongly in the first part of the concert: it is the one of Giuseppe Verdi (1813 – 1901) perhaps the greatest opera composer of all times a genius whose bicentenary is being celebrated this year.
He was the protagonist of the great romantic adventure, a simple man who loved his land, nourished by the values of a genuine and deep rural culture, Verdi has been an extraordinary singer of life and of human passions. He still represents today the voice of Italy and of melodrama par excellence. Melodrama which - as Andrea Bocelli always says - is “the paradise of music”.
The compositional genius of Verdi has shaken all conventions, telling of love but also of power, the torments of conscience, and the vertigo of sacrifice. Through works like Rigoletto, Il trovatore, La traviata, and very famous pages like “La donna è mobile”, “Di quella pira” and many other pages (pieces that Andrea and his guest will perform on the Asian stages), his music is still warming the heart of all of us and helps us to understand the values that matter most.
Next to Verdi repertoire, in the opera Olympus dashed by the selection offered in the tour, cannot be missing he who was Verdi’s follower: Giacomo Puccini (1858 - 1924), the Tuscan genius, the fellow countryman of Andrea Bocelli who signed immortal masterpieces like La Bohème e Tosca.
In the end a gem from Roméo et Juliette di Charles Gounod (1818 – 1893), a work recently performed and then recorded by our Italian tenor, under the direction of Fabio Luisi, a masterpiece both in Shakespeare‘s tragedy, as well as in the way in which the French composer was able to set to music the well known story of the two young and unfortunate lovers of Verona.
After such an exciting immersion in the lyric field, the second part of the concert will address the many facets of pop, including some songs from Bocelli’s “Passione” which just a few weeks, after having been released in over seventy countries, has topped the main charts in the world.
“Passione” is a recording project that includes some among the most beautiful pop songs ever: timeless songs which are still moving and lighting strong emotions today .A record that much resembles the sensibility of the interpreter, because it consists in a selection of those musical moments that accompanied his youth.
When I was a college student I approached pop music playing as a pianist in piano-bars explains the famous tenor – and it is right from this repertoire from these international songs that have become classics, that I started.
Each song is a gem, and the album a collection of cherished memories. Music dedicated to passionate love which I hope will be able to convey to everyone a spark of renewed passion.
The concert also includes some musical moments from albums such as “Incanto”, “Sentimento” “Vivere”: great popular romanzas, but also pages from that traditional Neapolitan repertoire that has conquered the world for many decades now, and pop hits that have studded the first twenty years of the dazzling career of Andrea Bocelli.
On the stage along with the most loved tenor in the world, backed by a large symphony orchestra and a choir, as usual some guests will be asked to further enhance the show. In addition to several important female voices involved, also the guitar duo CARisMA will perform with Andrea, a duo who is a discovery of the same Bocelli who has supported the talent of these two very young musicians. And in fact the duo Charisma has proved one of the most solar surprises in the field of chamber music concerts, and wherever they performed critical evaluations and feedback from the public were very warm and uniquely proceeded in that direction.
The protagonist speaking
“My greatest desire is that, even in Asia, every concert of mine may turn out to be for the public a joyful day: my staff and I have done all that was possible to conceive an unforgettable event up to the expectations.
I am proposing to share immortal pages, through a repertoire that is typical of the Italian tenor. Furthermore I am also trying within the concert sequence to propose equally opera arias and popular romanzas, and songs that have become by now “classics”, always presenting some surprises, but never forgetting in the program or in the “encores” songs traditionally loved and requested: music the public expects to hear.
There will be at first an exquisitely lyric part, with pages from the great nineteenth - century Italian opera repertoire and with some pieces from the French one, (including a page from “Roméo et Juliette” by Gounod, which I had the pleasure to record recently), followed by the great romanzas by now consigned to history, including some world-famous Neapolitan songs to get then to more pop music. There will be songs from my new album “Passion”. And on more than one occasion I will sing while playing my beloved piano.
For me the most important thing, as usual, is to be able to convey positive emotions, and if possible to give a little peace of mind sharing the sweet mystery of music.
